Welcome to Byrd Presbyterian Church, Our Spiritual Home.
If you’re searching for a welcoming congregation dedicated to seeking God and serving others, you’ve found your place. For generations, we have gathered in this sanctuary for worship, praise, prayer, teaching and love. Here we share our joys and our sorrows, our celebrations and our milestones, in the presence of God and one another. We look back with gratitude on the deep ties our congregation has had to the wider Goochland community since 1748, when a license was granted to establish a meeting house here for “services.” By 1838, Byrd Presbyterian Church services began in what is our present-day sanctuary. It is Our Spiritual Home, rooted in history, woven into this community, and sustained by God. Byrd Presbyterian Church, Our Spiritual Home, remains very much alive and relevant. Through our services and community outreach, we hope to share with you the unconditional love that Jesus taught us to have for our neighbors, our friends, our Creator and the whole Creation. All are welcome at Byrd. We hope you will come visit us in person. We care deeply for each other. We are members of a church family. We focus with our hearts and minds on spiritual growth. We reach out into the world and our Goochland community to live out Christ’s message of caring, sharing and serving everyone. While Byrd congregation may seem small in number, our compassion for others, our willingness to serve our community and our steadfast commitment to God far surpass our size. With fewer than 100 members, we’re officially a small congregation, and we love that about ourselves. We’re an extended family in Christ, where everyone is treated like family. Your sorrows are our sorrows, your joys are our joys, your needs are our needs, your dreams are our dreams. Come worship with us. Come and see. A history of our church |
The congregation that would eventually become Byrd Presbyterian Church was originally organized in 1748 by Samuel Davies, who would eventually become president of Princeton University. The first building was erected in 1759 on Byrd Creek. In 1838, the existing structure was built. In 2008, a new fellowship hall was added to the existing building. Byrd Presbyterian Church is a registered national historic place. Veterans' Memorial at Byrd
